If you are aware of the Hungry Shark series, then you will know the basic premise of Hungry Shark World is to eat and chew your way through the sea while you get bigger and bigger. The game has now advanced to become more graphically pleasing with more of a 3D feel to it. It is free to download and play on Android, but there are plenty of in-app purchases to be made that run up to almost $105 at a time.

The bigger you get, the bigger your prey

In Hungry Shark World, you swim around the ocean and eat things that are smaller than you. Beware of the usual hazards and grow in size. As you grow, you are able to eat bigger things and have more special abilities, such as the ability to jump higher out of the water or go on land. The bigger you get, the bigger the prey that you may hunt, and frankly it becomes a little brutal at times. For example, when you are taking down a whale, you really have to bite into that thing to take it down. Even the Japanese would blush. Just like with the other games, you are able to try out different sharks as you progress through the game, which makes for a more varied gameplay experience. You may also add things to your shark, such as an umbrella or headphones. They even ripped off Austin Powers, since you are able to attach "Frickin" laser beams to their heads.

No-one or nothing is safe from your hungry bite

The bingeing on the beach is fun, as is taking down ships, but the best touch is when you jump out of the sea life center ponds. Let the dolphins dance on the water and make fools of themselves. You are jumping onto the trainer's floor to have a munch on her guts. The boosts and combo bonuses within Hungry Shark World are okay if you are looking for a long-term playing experience, but even the super-size power up can take the edge off the game as you grind your way to find power-ups. There are hundreds of different things to eat and enemies to…eat. It is oddly satisfying being able to grow bigger and bigger so you can attack things you previously had to swim away from. There are 17 species of shark within the game, and there are seven different size tiers. The worlds are free-roaming, and there are 20 missions to complete.

Blood and gore and more

The sound seems to have improved over its predecessors. It is less repetitive and a little deeper. The graphics are what you would expect from an Android phone these days, except that they still have a very cartoony feel. There is a lot of blood, but it moves in such a way that it is not really gory, it more like arcade violence. The backgrounds are shaded a little better than the previous hungry shark games, which makes it appear as if they are truly in the background and are not simply paper backgrounds like those you see in old movies. The cartoony feel may not be to everybody's taste, but the bright colors are far better than the dreary dark colors that are featured on some of the competitor games to Hungry Shark World. The graphics are reminiscent of a game you may find on the Wii.

It is a free game, and they have clearly tightened up the gameplay when compared with previous versions. It still has lastability problems because of the sheer amount of repetitive play, but the developers have clearly packed the game with extras and power-ups in an attempt to keep it interesting for long-term players. It is more a game for casual gamers when all is said and done. It does have a playful charm to it, even if it does become repetitive rather quickly. Still, it is a free game where the power-ups are not mandatory in order to complete it, so you have no excuse but to download it today.
